Automation Engineer – Junior or Intermediate

Hybrid position (Remote work + office 1x/month + client site visits as needed).

Efficient Plant is seeking a Junior or Intermediate Automation Engineer to contribute to the development, integration, and support of automation and SCADA solutions in the energy sector.

An ideal role for a young engineer passionate about automation, industrial communications, and modern technological environments.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the development, configuration, and support of GE iFix SCADA systems.
  • Contribute to the integration and configuration of RTAC and SMP industrial gateways.
  • Perform configuration and communication testing: Modbus, DNP3, IEC 61850, OPC, etc.
  • Collaborate on integration between PLCs, RTUs, IEDs, and SCADA platforms.
  • Diagnose, analyze, and resolve technical issues.
  • Participate in commissioning activities, remotely or on-site when required.
  • Prepare and maintain up‑to‑date technical project documentation.

Desired Skills

  • Practical knowledge of GE iFix (development, scripting, drivers).
  • Experience or interest in RTAC, SMP, and industrial gateways.
  • Knowledge of industrial protocols: Modbus, OPC UA/DA; assets include DNP3 and IEC 61850.
  • Asset: experience or internships in the energy sector, substations, power generation, or distribution.
  • Asset: understanding of PLCs, RTUs, SCADA architectures, and industrial networks.

Interests

  • Learning cutting‑edge automation technologies.
  • Learning industrial processes in the energy sector.
  • Working with senior automation managers and senior specialists in these technologies.

Candidate Profile

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Industrial Computing, or a related field.
  • 0 to 5 years of experience in automation, SCADA, or industrial communications.
  • Curiosity, rigour, and strong ability to learn quickly.
  • Comfortable with remote work and highly autonomous.
  • French required; working proficiency English required.
  • Member of the Order of Engineers.
  • Authorized to work in Canada.
